This two day bit of unpleasantness was on the outskirts of Hama circa 2014. We’d been camped in the house our guides who got us across the border from Lebanon recommended. Our contact in Hama seems to have had a change of heart and taken a turn to the Nusra Front (Al Qaeda affiliate).
Only later did we understood that some of his family members were killed in a regime bombing raid and he no longer felt the need to keep up his façade of loyalty to the regime controlled city.
