English to Arabic and back
He speaks both English and Arabic as a native and has the bi-lingual
comprehension and communications abilities of a "Harvard Arabist", according to a
Pulitzer Prize winner with whom he has worked closely and extensively.
Stewart finds translating highly rewarding. It affords him the opportunity to question,
discuss and hear, first hand, the stories, experiences, views, opinions,
analysis, hopes and aspirations of a wide variety of people.
He prides himself on his ability to capture and convey the most complex thoughts, ideas and emotions back and forth across the language barrier with near clinical accuracy.
He can grasp a meaning and interpret it as well as translate word for word, and usually
works using an optimal combination of both techniques.
He also prides himself on his ability to communicate with and gain the respect and
co-operation of the most hostile of interviewees - be that an individual or a mob.
